It’s been a crazy week of weather for Vancouver Island!

Another winter storm came on Wednesday with heavy snowfall what to suspend of Canada Post Deliveries, CRD Recycling services and Bus routes all thursday.

Then the wind blew in, causing several BC ferry crossings on the Swartz Bay / Tsawwassen route canceled on Friday.

Now that the weather is clearing, we hope the weather stays calm and look forward to a relaxing weekend.

Here are 16 things to do in and around Victoria this weekend, Nov 8-9. January:

Get your tree chipped

Another Christmas season has come and gone.

Depending on when you want to wrap up your decorations and cut the tree down, you might be trying to figure out where to get this year’s tree chipped!

Before recycling, don’t forget to remove all screws, nails, lights, and ornaments from the tree. These items can be potentially dangerous if passed through a chopping system.

Skate in Uptown

The Rink at Uptown invites avid skaters!

This holiday guests can skate for $ 5 per person per person for $ 2 hire. Guests can book their 40-minute time on-line for groups of up to 6 people.

Waivers and masks are required to attend so guests are asked to arrive five minutes prior to check-in to sign up and get dressed!

The festive fun also serves a good cause! 50% of The Rink’s proceeds will be donated to the 1UP Victoria Single Parent Resource Center to support their Christmas Basket program.

After almost two years of shutdown, Hecklers is back to meet your comedy needs. Do you enjoy a comedian every Saturday night, followed by Comedy Here Often’s The Late?

Try Victoria’s first Popeyes Chicken

Now you can get the taste of New Orleans with the grand opening of the very first Popeyes Louisiana Chicken on Vancouver Island – right here in Victoria.

The new location is in the Tuscany Village in Saanich and will bring a whole new world of flavors to the city.

Popeyes Canada is hoping to open up to five more franchises on Vancouver Island and hopes to have its second location in Nanaimo ready by Christmas.

So stop by for their famous Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken, Chicken Tender, Fried Shrimp and more!

Take a Victoria Food Tour

A Taste of Victoria Food Tours offers rain or shine tours of downtown Victoria, showcasing the best local cuisine the city has to offer.

The tour begins at Victoria Public Market and includes stops at Fan Tan Alley, Market Square, Bastion Square, Trounce Alley, Government Street, and the Inner Harbor, with 6 to 8 local tastings along the route.

Justin Bieber is helping to incorporate three fresh flavors of timbits into what he and Tim Hortons call timbiebs.

The Pride of London, Ontario teased the collaboration in an Instagram post two days ago, leaving fans wondering what was going on.

Now he’s helping bring three Timbiebs flavors – Chocolate White Fudge, Sour Cream Chocolate Chip and Birthday Cake Waffle – to stores across North America.

It’s no secret that everyone was disappointed when Starbucks has announced its fan favorite eggnog latte would be excluded from their vacation menu this year.

A brand new store specializing in British treats has just opened in Victoria and we’re excited!

Limey, the British Shop, opened as the only family-run store in Kelowna. Now they are overjoyed as they expand to what they call “the most British city in all of Canada”.

This fun and funky place specializes in everything British from candy and chips to bangers, black pudding and marmite.

Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey Team U8-C2

Are you ready to move those Pops bottles out of the garage? Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey Team U8-C2 hosts a drive-thru bottle drive. Simply load your bottles and cans into the trunk of your car, drive through and they grip without contact and without sorting. Just drop it off and go! The team will also be gathering door-to-door in the Royal Bay area.
