The weekend is finally here, and although there is no sunshine in it the forecast for this weekend, we are happy to say that snow doesn’t stand a chance!

For now…

Although a rainy weekend is ahead of us, there is still a lot to do. You can buy your Valentine’s Day haunted house tickets, go ice skating, and even try a plant-based version of an old fast-food favorite.

Here are 18 things to do in and around Victoria this weekend, January 15th and 16th:

Get your tickets for Love Hurts Valentines Haunt

This February, your favorite haunted house is transformed into a sinister, abandoned lover, offering a whole new reason to celebrate the holiday.

From February 10-13, the Monsters Haunted House is transforming the old Landmark Movie Theater in University Heights into a Love hurts, a meeting point for Valentine’s Day.

So grab your boo, hold her tight and dare your way through the haunted house. While you’re there, be sure to have your picture taken at the Haunted Valentines photo op!

Try KFC’s new plant-based menu

KFC has announced the launch of its expanded plant-based menu, offering something to indulge in for Canadians looking to reduce their meat consumption and play a role in more conscious eating habits.

On Jan. 3, the popular chain launched its Plant-Based Sandwich, Plant-Based Spicy Sandwich, Plant-Based Popcorn and Box Meal in KFC restaurants across the country.

The new menu items are 100% Canadian-made, cruelty-free, made with soy and wheat, and topped with KFC’s famous herbs and spices.

Apply to be an extra in a Disney Channel Original Movie

Victoria will be the set for a new film production later this month and they are looking for extras!

Under Wraps 2, the 2021 Disney Channel sequel to the original film, is looking for locals ages 8-70.

The production is looking for regular extras as well as special acts such as jugglers, stilt walkers, musicians, pro hula hoopers, street performers and others with special skills to use in front of the camera.

Get a free coffee or tea from McDonalds if you work in healthcare

McDonalds Canada wants to show its appreciation for healthcare workers across the country this month with a special offer just for them.

Beginning January 7th and for the rest of the month, healthcare workers in Canada can enjoy free coffee or tea from their local McDonalds.

This offer is for a medium coffee or tea and can be redeemed at both the front desk and drive-thru.

Skate uptown

The Rink at Uptown is ready to invite eager skaters!

Guests can skate and book their 40-minute time spot for $5 per person and $2 skate rental on-line for groups up to 6 people.

Participation requires waivers and masks, so guests are asked to arrive five minutes prior to check-in to sign in and get dressed!

The festive fun is also for a good cause! 50% of The Rink’s proceeds are donated to the 1UP Victoria Single Parent Resource Center to support the Christmas Basket Scheme.

After nearly two years of closure, Hecklers is back to serve your comedy needs. Enjoy a comedian every Saturday night followed by Comedy Here Often?’s The Late Show.

Victoria is known for its incredible food, variety of options and locally sourced favourites.

Although restaurants in the city have had a rough year, we saw locals come back to support their favorites as soon as possible.

Try Victoria’s first ever Popeyes Chicken

With the grand opening of the first-ever Popeyes Louisiana Chicken on Vancouver Island, you can now enjoy a taste of New Orleans – right here in Victoria.

The new location is located in Tuscany Village in Saanich and will bring a whole new world of flavors to the city.

Popeyes Canada is hoping to open up to five more Vancouver Island franchises, with hopes that the second Nanaimo location will be completed by Christmas.

So stop by for their famous Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken, Chicken Tender, Fried Shrimp and more!

Take a Victoria Food Tour

A Taste of Victoria Food Tours offers rain or shine tours of downtown Victoria showcasing the best local cuisine the city has to offer.

The tour begins at the Victoria Public Market and includes stops at Fan Tan Alley, Market Square, Bastion Square, Trounce Alley, Government Street and the Inner Harbour, with 6 to 8 local tastings along the route.

A brand new shop specializing in British goodies has opened in Victoria and we’re super excited!

Limey, the British Shop opened as the only family-run shop in Kelowna. Now they are overjoyed as they expand into what they call “the most British city in all of Canada”.

This fun and funky shop specializes in everything British, from sweets and chips to sausages, black pudding and marmite.
