Goldstream Food Bank had extra helping hands on December 15, thanks to a new youth baseball club in Victoria.

Two players and a coach from the Victoria Breakers Youth Baseball Club volunteered to help assemble and distribute baskets to those in need during one of the busiest times of the year for blackboard.

Club spokeswoman Sherry Caven said it was part of the club’s mission to help the community, and since they didn’t start up until September, this was their first service activity.

“We want to do a lot of community service or fundraising projects to help and encourage team building,” she said.

On the baseball side, players ages 13-17 develop their skills and receive off-season guidance on deciding where to play after the new season starts. Players of all skill levels and experience levels are welcome to register from across the Greater Victoria area. More information is available at www.breakersbaseballclub.com.
