Terrace eating and picnicking may imply a free meal for Higher Victoria visitors – Sooke Information Mirror
Everyone enjoys eating out, and if residents do in Victoria this month, their meal could be set up by a local celebrity.
Through June 30th, some lucky diners are getting free food courtesy of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Victoria Business Association, Destination Greater Victoria, City of Victoria, BC Restaurant and Food Services Association – Victoria in the Greater Victoria Picnics and Patios Contest Chapter or Vancity.
Representatives will visit restaurants across the area on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, usually with a local celebrity to select the winners.
“Guests on local decks who adhere to public health rules for safe eating can enjoy this euphoric moment when someone else says, ‘This time we will take the bill,'” said Bruce Williams, CEO of Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. “After the pandemic, we wanted to support the catering industry. Contest like picnics and patios is a great way to encourage dining on evenings of the week that people would otherwise not consider. “

The opening competition aims to support restaurants as the province recovers from the impact of COVID-19 health and safety protocols. BC’s COVID-19 restart plan began on May 25 with a return of the indoor restaurant for up to six people.
“Travel to and from Vancouver Island will be allowed starting June 15 if trends in case numbers and vaccination rates persist. Marketing and promoting Greater Victoria as a travel destination with competitions like picnics and patios will put us back on the map as an exciting place to visit, ”said Paul Nursey, CEO of Destination Greater Victoria. “The visitor economy has been struggling since the beginning of the pandemic. We want to welcome people with open arms again. This also includes the promotion of our gastronomy and hospitality industry, which contributes so much to attracting people to our wonderful region. “
