A brand new mask rule was introduced after a lockdown pub crawl caught the wrath of the Victorian premier.

Melburnians were drunk outside bars in Richmond on Saturday night and gathered by the dozen.

As a result of a number of compliance violations, including the gathering, lockdown measures have been tightened to include a curfew from Monday evening.

Also, a new rule has been added that prohibits removing a mask to drink alcohol.

“No masks are removed to consume alcohol outdoors,” said Andrews.

“You won’t be able to take off your mask to have a cocktail on a sidewalk bar crawl in a pop-up beer garden.”

The Saturday night crawl was organized through Richmond by a community group on social media.

It was designed to support local businesses, the page says, but instead it was busier than expected.

“We added more stores on Saturday morning that offer take-away food and drink to give more options and to balance the load to avoid large groups,” said the Richmond_3121 page on Sunday morning.

Andrews expressed disappointment with the pub crawl and said the police would be “watching” the event.

“We are as strong as our weakest point in this virus and therefore everyone must do the right thing,” he said on Sunday.

“There will be time for pub crawls, there will be time to do all sorts of things we’d like to do, and then we’ll have 80 percent of the community vaccinated.

“What I’m trying to achieve is to be open between now and 80 percent. Not locked like New South Wales will be, for months and months and months. “
